Obituary Indexes for Abington, Rockland and Whitman

~~~ This page is currently being updated ~~~
1932 - 1980
Between 1932 and 1980, less than 25 obituaries for each year were arbitrarily chosen to be saved. Most of them are for prominent individuals from the towns of Abington, Rockland and Whitman. It is worth noting that not every person who died in these towns had an obituary published in the newspaper.
1990 - 1999
In 1997, the Dyer's Trustee, Mary Rourke, and volunteer, Joanne Bergeron, made a concerted effort to collect as many obituaries as possible for those associated with the towns of Abington, Rockland, and Whitman. These obits were gathered from the three newspapers serving the area including the Brockton Enterprise, Patriot Ledger, and the Abington Mariner.
Cemeteries in Abington, Rockland and Whitman
The Cemeteries of Abington by Ida R. Totman of Rockland : Paper Prepared for The Bicentennial of Abington, 1912
  • The Cemeteries of Abington
The Cemeteries of Abington, a.k.a., "Ida Totman Cemetery Book," is a 28-page manuscript that identifies the locations of the cemeteries in Old Abington, that after 1874 included the Towns of Abington, Rockland, and Whitman. Totman refers to historical events in Old Abington, individuals, and provides selected epitaphs. Years after this "book" was published, Martha Campbell supplemented the manuscript by providing a map with cemetery locations.
