In every war in which our country has been engaged, a full quota of soldiers has been furnished from Old Abington. After 1874, the towns of Abington, Rockland and Whitman, Massachusetts continued that tradition. Devotion to the duties of citizenship by way of military service remains strong in all three communities.
Realizing that our nation can rise no higher than its source – its people – The Dyer honors Abington, Rockland and Whitman Veterans who serve as an example of working toward the best interests, the advancement, and the prosperity of our nation.
The Dyer is fortunate to have an extraordinary collection of records, documents, letters, photos, and artifacts from those who served during King Philip's War (1675-1678) to the U.S. Civil War (1861-1865) as well as information about those who served from the Towns of Abington, Rockland and Whitman after 1874 when the towns divided, up to World War 2 (1941-1945).
From the Korean War era to the present, the Dyer has very little information about veterans from the three towns. We need your help to fill this profound gap in our collections.
