The Dyer Memorial Library collections focus on local history and genealogy, with a concentration on materials by and about people connected to the area known as Old Abington, now Abington, Rockland and Whitman.

The Dyer is located near the corner of Centre Ave. (Rt. 123) and Washington St.; a few blocks from the intersection of Rt. 123 & Rt. 18 (Brockton Ave. & Bedford St.) and not far from the intersection of Rt. 123 & Rt. 58 (Centre Ave. & Plymouth St.).

(Please note: The Dyer Library may close during severe weather conditions. If the Abington public schools close or have early dismissal due to inclement weather, the Dyer will follow suit.)

Tours of the Dyer Library are available by request. For assistance in planning your school or organization's field trip to the Dyer Library, please call us at (781) 878-8480.

First Time Visitors

Researchers making a first visit to the Dyer Memorial Library must fill out a registration form and present a current form of photographic identification. The Librarian will explain library policies and introduce the visitor to the collection. The library stacks are closed to researchers. Research materials do not circulate and can be used only in the reading room under the supervision of library staff. Reference staff members will be available throughout the day to answer questions and assist readers with library research.

The Dyer Library Staff reserves the right to search any and all personal belongings upon entry and departure of the library.

Researchers may bring personal computers, personal notebooks and folders into the library. These must be presented upon arrival at the Dyer. Pencils are available.

Advanced notice is required to photograph materials and permission to do so will be granted at the discretion of the Dyer Memorial Library Board of Trustees.

Wireless Internet Access

Free WiFi AccessThe Dyer Library offers free wireless internet access however the signal is spotty in certain parts of the building.

Your laptop must be equipped with a WiFi card supporting "WEP" encryption (most WiFi cards support this standard).
